What is the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (Domestic RHI) is a government financial incentive to promote the use of renewable heat.

People who join the scheme receive quarterly payments for seven years for the amount of clean, green renewable heat it is estimated their system will produce.

The UK Government's Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) makes key policy decisions and energy regulator Ofgem E-Serve administers the scheme. Policy documents can be found on the UK Government website on the at Ofgem website here .

Since lunching in 2014, the scheme has already seen thousands of people successfully join and receive quarterly payments.

RHI Payback Estimate Example:

Property Type: 3/4 Bedroom House
Annual Heating Demand: 17,000 kWh
Annual Hot Water Demand: 3,000 KWh
System SPF: 3.5
Total Energy Demand= 20,000 kWh
RHI Tariff= £10.18p

Total RHI payment over 7 year = £10,240

Is Your Property Eligible?

you can apply for the RHI if you own your own home or are a landlord. If your domestic property has a home office or studio etc, you will still be able to apply to the scheme if you can get a domestic EPC. If your renewable technology heats a single property made up of multiple buildings for example a main house with outbuildings that form part of the same property you can still apply for the Domestic RHI. This includes outbuildings that have a mixed use, such as workshops or studios.

Does Your Property Have a Domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)?

To claim RHI your property must have a domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that has been issued within the last 24 months . An EPC gives information about a property's energy use together with recommendations on how to reduce energy and save money. It's required every time you buy, sell or rent a property. If you do not already have an EPC dont worry, AOS heating can arrange the EPC for you.

Is The Product and Installer MCS Accredited?.

To claim RHI your product must be certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
MCS is a strict accreditation which is nationally recongised as a quality assurance scheme, AOS Heating has been an MCS accredited Installer for over 5 years now. We also only use Mitsubishi Electric Air Source Heat Pumps which are all fully MCS approved.

Do you have Loft and cavity wall insulation?

You must have/install loft and/or cavity wall insulation if it's recommended in your EPC. If it's not possible to do so you may still be able to apply for the scheme if you meet certain exemptions doe example if the property is a listed building and installing insulation is prevented by the Local Planning Authority. If you already have loft and cavity wall insulation and your insulation meets minimum efficiency standards you can apply to the scheme as soon as your renewable technology is installed.
