Following the closure of the Green Homes Grant in 2021, the latest Government scheme to help build carbon-neutral homes has been revealed. But what exactly is The Boiler Upgrade Scheme £7,500 Air Source Heat Pump Grant?
Heating our homes and workplaces with low carbon heat is one of the best things we can do to help combat climate change. Currently, heating all the buildings in the UK produces almost a quarter of the UK's carbon emissions. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme will provide grants to encourage property owners to replace existing fossil fuel heating with more efficient, low carbon heating systems including air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and, in limited circumstances, biomass boilers. Heating systems can be commissioned any time from 1 April 2022, and applications for grants opens from 23 May 2022. The scheme has £450m of funding available until 2028.

What is the Heat Pump Grant?
In essence, the Heat Pump Grant is a scheme that allows UK homeowners to apply for a one-off £7,500 voucher for replacing less efficient gas boilers with air-source heat pumps.
What happens when the heat pump costs more than the limit?
The grant isn't designed to cover the full costs of an installation. In fact, the average household can expect to pay between £10,000 and £12,000. However, this should bring the costs down to the same level as replacing a gas boiler.
So, you get an eco-friendly and efficient upgrade at the cost of a standard upgrade package. In turn, this lets you save the environment as well as money.
Who is eligible for the Heat Pump Grant?
Most homeowners, landlords and self builders (public and private) can apply for the £7,500 one-off Government grant. The only notable exceptions are multiple new build projects and social housing while the scheme is also limited to England and Wales.
How do I apply for the Heat Pump Grant?
Although the Boiler Upgrade Scheme launches on the 1st April it will not be open for applications until Monday 23rd May.
This wont stop your installation going ahead sooner as installations completed after the 1st April can still apply after their installation.
With the scheme limited to 30,000 homes per year, it's advised that you apply early.
However, it is not a grant that you can apply for directly through the Government. You will need a heat pump installer to act on your behalf to liaise with energy regulator Ofgem, AOS Heating are happy to offer this service to ensure that your low-carbon heat pump is as efficient for your pocket as it is for the environment.
How do we apply for you?
AOS will apply directly to Ofgem, the scheme administrator, for you grant voucher.
We will provide your details to Ofgem and they will then email you, asking you to consent to AOS applying on your behalf.
We will then proceed and complete the installation in line with industry standards and scheme requirements.
Once the installation is completed, commissioned and your voucher received we will redeem it and AOS will receive the grant funding.
Energy performance Certificate
To be eligible for the scheme you MUST have an Energy Performance Certificate that is within 10 years of date that does not have a recommendation for loft or cavity wall insulation. If your EPC does have either of these recommendations they must be completed and a new EPC generated before you can make your application. If your project is a self build (custom build project) then we can apply using your SAP EPC which should of been generated at the design stage of the project.
