Mick and Sally, Rose Cottage - AOS Heating Case Study Blog Post
At AOS we recently installed a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan air source heat pump at an off-gas cottage in Buntingford, Hertfordshire. With over 38 years of experience, we're recognised as one of the leading experts in the Heating & Boiler industry. So when we told Mitsubishi Electric about the upcoming install they sent their own brand ambassador, the TV Architect George Clarke to visit the homeowners and find out more about the AOS Heating installation.
Since purchasing the 19th Century cottage in 2020, homeowners Mick and Sally had been finding that the existing electric boiler in the property was under-powered and inefficient. This was largely due to the extension which had been made to the property 5 years before. The extra pressure that this put on the electric boiler meant it was running constantly and their energy bills were through the roof. On top of the electricity bills they were having to boost the heat in their house with their log-burner just to keep the house comfortable in the winter months. Mick and Sally ruled out the use of oil and LPG as they were determined to seek out a more sustainable solution to their heating needs. This sustainable solution was obviously an Air Source Heat Pump. After doing their research into various installers, the couple were recommended AOS Heating for the job, and in turn we recommended installing the Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump.
At AOS Heating, we have worked with and recommended the Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan product range for over a decade. We choose to use the Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump for a number of reasons, but perhaps most notably because of Mitsubishi Electric's own process of continued improvement that means it's arguably the best Air Source Heat Pump for UK conditions - it's even designed and built here in the UK. We also love the fact that it can be controlled and monitored remotely using their MELCloud system. This makes the maintenance that much easier for the homeowners such as Mick and Sally.
We take pride in every job we undertake, so we're always diligent in our surveying and certification of our customers' homes. Our Senior Technical Surveyor Lee Wildego carried out the initial assessment of Mick and Sally's property. As part of this assessment, Lee found out as much as possible about the property, which included generating a valid EPC certificate. Then back in the office, Lee carried out an MCS room-by-room heat loss calculation, which allowed AOS Heating to design the perfect, most efficient system for the property. The MCS accreditation allows the homeowner to apply for government grants, including the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
We believe that it is our job to give our customers the best options available and ensure that they have the most effective service possible. Mick and Sally were pleased to find that there were very minimal changes that needed to be made to the existing house in order to make the switch. A few of the radiators in their lounge were upgraded for larger ones which were more in-keeping with the property, and the hot water cylinder was installed in place of the previous boiler, and tucked away in their airing cupboard, meaning they lost no space at all upstairs. The unit itself then slotted in seamlessly and discreetly down the side of the property.
So how do Mick and Sally feel about their new Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump and have they seen any benefits? The answer from them both is a resounding yes. The couple say that it is a very stable system and the app and controls make it very easy to operate and have complete command over. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, they are now using 40% less energy on heating their house!
This is just one example of the many successful installations from AOS Heating. To find out how we can help equip your home with the most up-to-date heating advancements, including renewable & green technologies do get in touch. Whatever the job, you can rest assured that you are in expert hands.
